Our Story

It all began over 10 years ago with our first home in our small Texas college town. Each week we'd try to squeeze up to forty college students in our home for a meal. Charlie's architectural background teamed with Kirby's compulsive desire to 'tear down all the walls' to create larger gathering spaces laid the foundation for a dream that would be deferred for the next decade. Over the years, we'd design and execute top to bottom remodels on our own homes in all our spare time of raising four children after full-time work hours and on the weekends. 

Friends began to ask us to remodel their homes on the side. From kitchens and bathrooms to complete remodels or additions, we'd rework the footprint to help bring form and function to their spaces. We began to dream about one day collaborating full-time in Residential Design + Build—but not until the kids were out of the house...

A job layoff from a start-up in 2016 gave us the courage to finally take the risk of launching Gathered House in November 2017. 

A love for good food and passion for building community runs deep in our Southern roots, so while we love crafting whole-house renovations—creating gathering spaces to make room for all your loved ones is our sweet spot—hence the name, Gathered House.
